Calabria is often associated with turquoise-blue waters, historic coastal towns, and relaxed summer days by the sea. Yet the southernmost region of the Italian mainland is increasingly becoming a destination for families looking to travel together across generations. While classic family vacations were once typically centered on parents and children, more and more travelers today are choosing to bring grandparents, parents, and children together, placing shared experiences at the heart of the trip.

Between Tropea and Capo Vaticano, along the celebrated Costa degli Dei, the four-star Baia del Sole Resort is launching its new season. The property belongs to the Mediterranean Hospitality Group and is built around a concept that focuses on quality time together, nature, and experiences tailored to different age groups .

A green oasis between Tropea and Capo Vaticano

The Baia del Sole is nestled within a sprawling Mediterranean garden just a short walk from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The entire property feels like a tranquil retreatwhere nature and the sea set the rhythm. Rather than large hotel complexes, the focus here is on rooms, family accommodations, and bungalows designed to offer both privacy and space for shared vacation experiences.

Many accommodations open directly onto lush greenery, creating the feeling of living in the midst of the landscape. From various areas of the resort, views stretch across the sea to the Aeolian Islands and the silhouette of Stromboli. Guests can spend their time at the beach or the pool, explore the surroundings or simply choose rest and relaxation.

Experiencing nature instead of staring at screens

While adults unwind, children and teenagers have access to a full program at the Kids Club. Six days a week, a variety of activities are offered, tailored to different age groups. The focus is on movement, creativity, and nature experiences.

The weekly program includes garden workshops, movie nights, yoga sessions, beach games, creative art projects, and storytelling activities. The goal is to encourage screen-free outdoor activities while giving children the opportunity to discover and try new things. Teamwork and creativity also play an important role.

Hands-on cooking workshops introduce younger guests to regional traditions and the distinctive character of Calabria. Many activities have been developed by the resort's education and entertainment team, with a deliberate focus on mindfulness and body awareness.

Special offerings include "Yoga for Kids," which introduces children to relaxation and mindfulness through play, as well as "Yoga Album Creation," where children can document their experiences in a creative way. "The Cuddle Garden" combines storytelling and relaxation for both children and parents, while "Little Tightrope Walkers" uses slackline exercises to build concentration, balance, and self-confidence. In addition, children can capture their vacation memories in a creative weekly diary.

Activities for teenagers and shared experiences

Teenagers are well catered for as well. Options range from water sports such as kayaking and stand-up paddling to tennis and archery, along with workout sessions in a sea-view fitness room, ensuring that even longer stays leave little room for boredom.

One special experience is designed not just for children but for the whole family: evening stargazing. To keep the night sky as undisturbed as possible, the resort dims or shields its lighting. On nights with little moonlight in particular, the Milky Way is clearly visible overhead. With the help of a telescope, guests learn to identify constellations and other celestial objects. Afternoon workshops exploring the solar system in a playful way can also be arranged on request.

Calabrian cuisine with a view of the sea

The culinary concept is equally attuned to different generations. At the restaurants Le Giare and Le Pignate, regional ingredients, traditional Calabrian cuisine, and elements of the Mediterranean diet come together. Shared meals with a view of the Tyrrhenian Sea are intended to be a conscious part of the vacation experience, giving families time to enjoy one another's company.

Beyond classic beach holidays, a wide range of leisure activities is available, including water sports, boat trips, and hiking. The surrounding area also offers plenty of opportunities for shorter excursions. From the Ruffa River to the so-called Valley of the Mills, various landscapes can be explored on foot or by e-bike.

Tropea is one of the best-known destinations in Calabria

Tropea is located on the western coast of Calabria between Lamezia Terme and Reggio Calabria and is considered one of the region's most popular travel destinations. Due to its position on a cliff high above the sea, the town is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea." Known for more than just its beaches and historic old town, Tropea is also celebrated for its famous red Tropea onion. In 2021, the town won the "Borgo dei Borghi" competition, an annual award recognizing Italy's most charming small communities.
