The third weekend of May marks the official start of summer 2026 at the seaside resorts of Comacchio . Expansive beaches, excellent water quality, and a varied events calendar, ranging from evening markets to live performances, promise carefree vacation days on the Adriatic coast.
Seven seaside resorts between Venice and Ravenna
Like pearls on a string, the seven seaside resorts known as the Lidi di Comacchio are strung along the Adriatic coast between Venice and Ravenna, from Lido di Volano in the north to Lido di Spina in the south. Wide, fine-sand beaches and outstanding water quality define these vacation destinations. Despite many similarities, each lido has its own character, some tranquil and relaxed, others lively and bustling. The range of activities for active vacationers is broad, spanning beach tennis and volleyball, yoga, aqua fitness, and stand-up paddling, all the way to running events, triathlons, and Nordic walking. There is no shortage of entertainment away from the beach and sports either. Music and show events keep things lively throughout the entire summer. The season kicks off with "Mare in Fiore" (May 23–24, May 30–31, and June 1–2) in Lido degli Estensi, a large open-air garden market featuring flowers, plants, culinary offerings, and arts and crafts.

Comacchio: A major festival along the Adriatic coast
One of the highlights of the opening summer season is the "Notte Rosa, Hit's Summer" (June 19–21), the grand festival along the Adriatic coast featuring concerts, shows, and live performances. On June 27, Comacchio hosts the "Carnevale sull'acqua," a summer carnival celebrated on the water. The numerous waterways of the delta region provide the perfect backdrop: costumed performers glide through the canals of the old town on elaborately decorated boats, accompanied by music and cheering crowds. Another major event follows in the second half of August: at the "Anteprima Buskers Festival," international street artists transform the historic center of Comacchio into a stage filled with music and creative performances. Rounding out the program are the popular evening markets, where textiles, shoes, and accessories are on offer. These so-called mercati serali rotate through each of the seven lidi, with one taking place every evening of the week.
Nature experiences in the Po Delta
The events calendar is complemented by a wide range of nature experiences, from aperitifs at sunset to discovery tours in the Po Delta nature park and canoe outings on full-moon nights. The natural oases of the region offer countless ways to explore the landscape actively, whether by bicycle, boat, canoe, or on horseback. The distinctive blend of water, lagoons, reed beds, and wide-open horizons makes the Po Delta one of the most impressive natural areas in northern Italy and an ideal destination for those looking to combine outdoor activity with unspoiled nature.

Comacchio: Accommodation and regional culture
The destination is equally versatile and well equipped when it comes to accommodation. Hotels, campsites, bed and breakfasts, and vacation rentals offer modern comfort for a wide range of needs. The Lidi di Comacchio are also considered particularly family-friendly, with a strong emphasis on accessibility as well as offerings for young travelers and vacationers with pets. Numerous beach sections and facilities are set up to welcome four-legged guests, offering services such as veterinary care and dedicated amenities for animals and their owners. For those who want to dive deeper into the culture of the region, Comacchio and its surroundings offer many opportunities. The Museo Delta Antico allows visitors to explore the history of the Po Delta through an archaeological lens. The Manifattura dei Marinati, a historic fish-processing facility, provides insight into a defining chapter of the region's economic history. In Lido di Spina, the former home of artist Remo Brindisi opens a window onto the avant-garde of the 20th century, bringing together architecture and modern art.
Ferrara: Renaissance meets Pop Art
The proximity to the Renaissance city of Ferrara adds yet another cultural dimension to the experience. The provincial capital impresses with remarkable architecture and a vibrant cultural life. Currently, fifty years after the legendary exhibition "Ladies and Gentlemen," the city is celebrating the return of Andy Warhol. The Palazzo dei Diamanti is staging a new interpretation of the groundbreaking 1975/76 show. More than 150 works illustrate his radical redefinition of portraiture and engage with themes of identity, media, and pop culture.

May in Ferrara is also the time for the Palio di Ferrara, a historic competition between the city's neighborhoods. The series of events commemorates the city's golden age under the Este dukes during the Renaissance. On May 23, the "Magnifico Corteo" sees more than a thousand performers in magnificent historical costumes parade through the old town, bringing the past to life through color, music, dance, and banners. The festivities reach their peak on the last Saturday of the month, May 30, on the Piazza Ariostea, where the city's neighborhoods compete in the traditional horse race. A spectacle that continues to embody passion, tradition, and living identity.
