A vacation destination that feels like one long, deep breath, that is the Cascina delle Langhe in Piemonte. This house needs no grand words to make an impression. It opens itself quietly and confidently, almost like a gracious host who makes no fuss yet has everything that matters: warmth, character, and an unmatched sense of what is essential.
150-Year-Old Farmhouse Restored
What today welcomes guests with understated elegance was once an old farmhouse built more than 150 years ago and carefully restored in recent years. The Cascina sits on the edge of the small village of Castino, amid meadows, woodland borders, and the soft hills of the upper Langhe region. From here, the views stretch far across the landscape, over vineyards, forests, and scattered houses, and on clear days, sometimes all the way to the Alps on the horizon. The house itself seems made for those who appreciate authenticity but are unwilling to compromise on comfort. Beyond the wrought-iron gate of the courtyard, the living area opens into a generous kitchen with a beamed ceiling, natural stone floors and a built-in barbecue fireplace that provides cozy warmth on cooler evenings. The kitchen is not only fully equipped but furnished with an eye for atmosphere that makes it tempting to linger, even when the nearest restaurant may be just a few minutes away. On warm days, life naturally shifts outdoors, into the sheltered courtyard, onto the covered terrace, or under the arcade of the former hay barn.

Former Stable Converted into a Second Living Wing
A stone exterior staircase leads up to the upper floor, where three bedrooms with double beds are found, one of which has direct access to a covered loggia with sweeping valley views. Two stylish bathrooms and a study that can also serve as a reading or relaxation room complete the living amenities. The former stable has been converted into a second living wing, which is especially popular with families or small groups: it offers two additional bedrooms, an extra bathroom, and plenty of space to arrange as desired. Outside, a three-hectare natural property unfolds with shady spots, old trees, whimsical seating areas, and a bocce court. Moving through it all feels like strolling through a private piece of landscape that reinvents itself with every shift of light. The pool, 14 meters long, filled with salt water, and set into the lower terrace of the grounds, is positioned so that swimmers look directly out into the open countryside. No noise, no fences, no neighbors in sight. Only sky, forest, and the scent of summer.
Italian Village Life Just Around the Corner in Castino
For those who feel like experiencing Italian village life, a short stroll leads down to Castino. Here the world is still small and full of chance encounters: there is a little grocery store, a Slow Food pizzeria, an outstanding butcher, a café with a bar, and a pastificio where fresh agnolotti are made by hand. People wave, stop to chat, and share stories. One feels not like a tourist but like a welcome guest. And when the urge for day trips strikes, everything is practically at the doorstep: Alba with its weekly market and famous truffles, Barolo with its wine cellars, the thermal baths in Acqui Terme, the medieval city of Asti, or even the Ligurian coast, reachable in about an hour's drive. And yet, after just a few days, it often becomes clear that none of it is really necessary. That it is enough to sit with a coffee under the portico in the morning, read a book on the loggiain the afternoon, or spend the evening listening to crickets with a glass of Dolcetto in hand.
