On Sunday, 13 September 2026, several areas of Italian air traffic will strike simultaneously, which may lead to significant disruption for those travelling home at the end of the summer holidays. Most affected are Rome's airports Fiumicino and Ciampino, the Tuscan airports of Pisa and Florence, Cagliari Airport in Sardinia, and all Italian easyJet flights. 24-hour strikes at ADR Security in Rome and at easyJet
The most severe industrial action of the day concerns the security staff of ADR Security, responsible for security checks at Rome-Fiumicino and Rome-Ciampino airports. According to the official strike register of the Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti staff will walk out from 00:00 to 24:00. The union FAST-CONFSAL has called for the action. As all passengers must pass through security checks, this strike will indirectly affect every flight at both Rome airports, regardless of the airline.
At the same time, the cabin crew of easyJet will also strike for 24 hours, from 00:00 to 23:59. The action affects all Italian easyJet flights, both departures and arrivals. For flights to and from Cagliari, according to information from the specialist portal Trasporti Italia , a specific arrangement applies, with a reduced strike window of 11:00 to 15:00. As easyJet is one of the most important short- and medium-haul operators in Italy, serving many holiday destinations, this strike is also likely to affect a large number of travellers.
Four-hour strikes in Tuscany and Sardinia
In addition to the two 24-hour strikes, several local four-hour strikes will take place between 11:00 and 15:00. In Tuscany , staff from Toscana Aeroporti, GH Toscana and Consulta at the airports of Pisa and Florence will walk out, affecting ground handling services. According to the strike calendar of the specialist platform Business Mobility Travel , this time window is particularly relevant for passengers with connecting flights or tight transfer times.
At the same time, employees of Aviation Services at the Rome airports and staff of Sogaer at Cagliari-Elmas Airport will also strike. For travellers, this means that disruption is to be expected at five Italian airports during this time window on Sunday.
Guaranteed time windows and passenger rights

During this period, bottlenecks may arise at the airports of Pisa and Florence, especially when delays or unplanned additional work occur. Travellers flying from the Tuscan airports in September or early October should expect longer waiting times.
