For the very first time, we are presenting the Vivere in Italien Award. Readers from around the world nominate and vote for their favourite accommodation in Italy. Hotels, agriturismi and holiday homes can now be put forward.
There are places one thinks back on not only for the view, but for the people. The small hotel where one was greeted by name each morning. The agriturismo where breakfast tasted of garden, sunshine and genuine craftsmanship. The holiday home by the sea where a few days turned, quite unexpectedly, into a memory for life.
Anyone who loves Italy will know such places. Houses, hosts and establishments that make a stay truly special because they offer more than a bed for the night. It is precisely these places that we wish to celebrate with the Vivere in Italien Award 2027 , giving them the recognition they deserve. And this time, the decision rests not only with us, but above all with our readers.
The choice of Italy enthusiasts
Vivere in Italien is published in 16 languages and reaches readers in many countries. With the new award, we want to highlight which accommodation inspires Italy enthusiasts most, from the family-run hotel to the country estate, from the city address to the Villa am Meer.
Participation is free of charge. Voting is free of charge. And crucially: no one can buy a win. First, readers nominate their favourites. A public vote then follows. After that, a jury evaluates the top-placed establishments in each category.
Three categories to start with
For its launch, the Vivere in Italien Award 2027 will be presented in three categories:
Hotel of the Year: For hotels of every size, from the small city hotel to the seaside resort.
Agriturismo of the Year: For agriturismi and country estates offering overnight stays, where hospitality, atmosphere and a genuine connection to the region are truly felt.
Holiday Home of the Year: For holiday homes, villas and holiday flats that offer guests a truly special temporary home in Italy.
How the vote works
Until 31 January 2027 , readers can nominate their favourite accommodation. Establishments may also register their interest free of charge. From 1 February to 31 March 2027 , the public vote takes place. One vote per category is permitted, confirmed by e-mail.
In April 2027 , a jury comprising members of the editorial team and three external members will evaluate the top ten establishments in each category. In May 2027 , the winners and finalists will be announced. The public vote and the jury each account for half of the final result. Running a hotel, an agriturismo, a holiday home, a villa or a holiday flat in Italy? The establishment can also be registered free of charge. Registration is not a paid form of participation and has no bearing on the result. It does, however, help us to verify establishments, make contact and keep them informed about next steps.

In the coming weeks, we will be following the Vivere in Italien Award 2027 with editorial coverage. We will report on the state of nominations, explain the categories in greater detail and also feature accommodation that we ourselves have had the pleasure of staying at.
